What is your background?
I started my career journey as an English Teacher back in 2009 after completing my degree in English Literature. In 2013, I then embarked upon a totally new challenge and moved into PR and Communications in the social housing sector and developed a real passion for supporting people to live well. I’m really passionate about equality and empowering women, and I love the incredible sense of social purpose the housing sector has.
I am also a Board Member for the North East Women in Social Housing network (WISH) and the North East Board for the Chartered Institute of Housing.
What led you to this career and working at Invisible Creations®?
Through the National Housing Federation’s ‘Housing Futures’ programme I was involved in creating the idea for Invisible Creations® and I then worked alongside several housing associations to turn our idea into a reality. I think anyone who knows me and has followed the Invisible Creations® journey, knows how passionate I am about providing products and services that don’t define people by their age, and that promote independence, dignity, and inclusivity! Once we started this mission to support people to live well for longer I knew there was nothing else I wanted more than to be a driving force behind a business that has the ability to make a real positive difference to people’s lives. That and I promised my Gran I wouldn’t stop until I got her the adaptations for her homes that she really deserved!
What work-related accomplishment are you most proud of?
I have recently completed a Chartered Business Management Degree in the middle of a global pandemic so I would say I’m pretty proud of that achievement. And of course the obvious one – playing a significant role in the formation of Invisible Creations®. I am both personally and professionally proud of what we have achieved in creating adaptations that remove negative stigmas associated with ageing and disability – not only has it opened up a whole new incredible career path for me, but it meant that I gave my Gran her dignity and the home she loved back.
What was the last book you read? Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? I do a lot of reading, spending time with my family and friends is always top of my list to fill my spare time with, I’m also a bit of an adrenaline junkie and love sports like snowboarding and surfing and have been known to throw myself out of a plane a couple of times.
What is your favourite quote? “Though she be but little she is fierce…”
What are you currently watching on Netflix? The Floor is Lava.
What’s the one song guaranteed to get you on the dance floor? I’d love to say something really cool here but the truth is that it would be a classic Taylor Swift tune.
Why do you think Invisible Creations® work is important? The work we do has the potential to be truly transformative and support so many more people to live healthier, happier, and safer lives for longer! To me, that’s pretty important!
